What dry stack boat storage means at The Boathouse

Dry stack boat storage keeps your boat out of the water on a rack inside a building, and lowers it in only when you want to use it. At The Boathouse at Benders Ferry, that rack is under a roof and our crew does the lifting. Dry stack storage like this suits owners who use the boat often but would rather skip the trailer, the ramp and a hull soaking in lake water.

Boat rack storage, sized for most runabouts

Our enclosed boat rack storage takes boats up to 32 feet long. A lift rated to 20,000 pounds handles every move between rack and water. Fit depends on more than length, so send the length, beam and height, including any tower, and the team will check it against the racks.

A boat valet service called SpeedyDock

Think of SpeedyDock as a boat valet. You send a request saying when you will arrive. Our crew retrieves the boat, launches it and has it ready at the dock. That takes the waiting out of rack storage, which is the usual complaint about it, and it means your day starts on the water rather than in a queue.

Fuel as part of the same request

If you want fuel, ask for it with the launch. The crew fills the boat while preparing it, with ethanol-free fuel treated with Primrose. This is a storage customer service only; The Boathouse does not run a public fuel dock.

PWC storage for 50 personal watercraft

The building also sets aside 50 spaces for personal watercraft. PWC storage indoors keeps jet skis out of the sun and rain between rides, and they launch through the same request process as the boats. Spaces depend on current capacity, so check before you plan around one.

The marina store and on-site staff

In the marina store you can pick up cold beer and soft drinks, bagged ice and snacks, plus sunscreen, shades, life jackets and a few clothing items. Staff are on site during the seasonal hours listed on the contact page. Away from those hours, the Rubright main office at Gallatin Marina handles calls on weekdays throughout the year.

Who dry stack storage works well for

It works well for owners who boat regularly through the season and want to keep the boat clean and protected. It also suits people who have trailered for years and are tired of ramps on Saturday mornings. If you like to work on your own boat for long stretches, talk to the team first so they can explain how access works around the racks.

Questions to ask before you sign up

Ask how far ahead to send a launch request in peak season, how fuel requests work, and what happens to the boat between uses. The team can also explain how SpeedyDock access is set up for new customers. Phone 615-758-2999 or send the form on this page, and read more about our indoor boat storage.

Dry stack compared with a wet slip

With a wet slip the boat stays floating, ready for an evening spent aboard. Dry stack trades that for a clean hull, no bottom growth and a boat that is out of the weather. Owners who mostly launch, run and return tend to prefer the rack. If evenings tied up at the dock are your idea of boating, a slip will suit you better. Both have their place, and the Rubright family’s Gallatin Marina across the lake offers covered slips if that suits you better.

Whatever you choose, the team at The Boathouse will be straight with you about whether dry stack is right for your boat and the way you use it.
